The problem with solutionism isn’t that technology is irrelevant to problem solving – it’s that technology developed in a vacuum by people who will never have to use it will only ever make problems worse.

There used to be a lot of discussion about “personal branding” and frankly it was nauseating. But, as an individual we all have a “brand” or a “profile”. At a minimum, it’s what’s on your resume, and how you build the narrative of your career. Some companies or roles are detrimental to that. If you work at a company that is materially contributing to (and profiting from) the collapse of society, that may reflect on you.

Take a moment the next time an app asks for your location to think about whether there’s a clear reason for sharing it. If you are at all suspicious, take a screenshot when you see the request on your screen. Here are some instructions on how to take a screenshot.

The Little Printer was a cute internet-connected thermal printer released in 2012 by BERG. The company shut down in late 2014, and so did the servers at the end of 2015. They open-sourced a minimal reimplementation of the server, which was later extended by Nordprojects, along with releasing a new app, in 2019. With that, people with Little Printers could use them again after hacking their BERG Cloud Bridge. You can’t really buy a Little Printer anymore; this page is all about making your own.

I had the idea for Unfollow Everything a few years ago, when I realized you don’t actually need to have a News Feed. If you unfollow everything—all of your friends, groups, and pages—your News Feed ends up empty.
