Photography – Week 44

There are lots of pictures this week. I’ve been walking in an entirely new area and that’s been interesting. I’m also playing around a bit with adding more commentary about what I liked about the pictures.

Dodge Grill
Race cars on the streets of Richmond are fun and this one had an interesting background that echoed the lines of the grill.

rough morning
Dazed and slightly confused.

30 years
This guy shouted to me to take a picture of the damaged sidewalk as he passed. The light caught his face just right as he turned the corner. You can’t see it all that well in the preview version but it looks better full size.

The tattered grip tape and the echo of the yellow in the window appealed to me.

Clay Market Style
I love the guy’s clothes and his expression. That mixed nicely with the hand drawn sign and strong primary color blocks on the store behind him.

eagle flies
I like the way the power lines come down and meet the rivets of the semi trailer. The semi-pro feel of the eagle is also fun.

so natural it grows on bushes
I liked the mix of nature and litter in a way that juxtaposes the title of the beer- so natural it grows on bushes.

securing decay
There is a certain kind of decay that feels almost intentional. While this doorway smelled of urine, it had that feel.

No thing is everything
It seemed like he was studying the graffiti which was of slightly greater depth than most graffiti in the area.

Sometimes murals are more than just the mural.

Eat locals
The “eat locals” sign pushed this into another level.

smoke break
The colors melded nicely and her dangling legs added an odd mix of youthfulness to what might otherwise be a pretty depressing shot.

an island of blue in a sea of red brick
Blue car, blue building, blue sky- all squeezed between two larger red brick buildings

yellow crested gecko
Geckos are just interesting looking.

  1. Love interesting photography, but it’s even better with the thinking behind what attracted the photographer to that image, what they saw in the scene. Thanks for adding those stories.

  2. Pictures are very rich in details. You must be a quick shooter. Usually by the time I’m done with composition, people have shifted their positions. What happens when the weather is not so amenable to walking outside, do you take more indoor shots then?

    1. I don’t have a good foul weather answer. I’ve played with macro stuff in the distant past but I really prefer just walking around. I need to get a waterproof DSLR housing. 🙂
