Large language models are digital artefacts that in essence are compressed, lossy versions of the internet: the connected patterns of millions of documents, and the statistical patterns of word use within and across those documents. When those models are activated such that these statistical patterns can predict the next letter, the next word, the next phrase, we see something of the world reflected back to us: but what world? (Maybe some of the critiques and frustrations with large language models stem from the fact that we do not like what we see when we look in this digital mirror.) - My Comments Are in the Google Doc Linked in the Dropbox I Sent in the Slack – McSweeney’s Internet Tendency
