- A Judge Accepted AI Video Testimony From a Dead Man
Gabriel Horcasitas killed Christopher Pelkey in 2021 during a road rage incident. Horcasitas was found guilty in March and faced a sentencing hearing earlier this month. As part of the sentencing, Pelkey’s friends and family filed statements about how his death affected them. In a first, the Arizona court accepted an AI-generated video statement in which an avatar made to look and sound like Pelkey spoke. - Painting With the Web
Yet, 25 years after “A Dao of Web Design” we still approach building for the Web with a mindset of control, using linear workflows and static design tools that often don’t reflect the Web’s true nature and potential. The canvas we work on has transformed, the materials we use have changed. - christopher.org for the next 100 years – Chris Coyier
I could chuck christopher.org on Pressable and it would have a good long life there surely, but now it’s tied to my own future death and legacy plan. Automattic has 100-year domains ($2,000) and 100-year hosting. ($38,000, includes domain). Jesse mentioned we could get christopher.org onto that as well.

100 years, or until Matt changes his mind or until some part of the WP publishing stack collapses. Why not just make a static snapshot of the site and host it on a commodity webserver? I think the 100 year hosting agreement is an expensive red herring. That was part of the draw of Hippie Hosting Co-op back in the day – a coop community that could sustain webstuff over time). I’ve changed web hosts maybe 4 times since then, so that’s moot anyway. I assume my web stuff will coast for a year or two after I (die or something else happens) and then will just go poof and the internet archive will be the only lasting trace.
Yeah, it did seem kind of crazy to me.
I sure don’t trust corporations for long-term thinking.
