Someone in our group mentioned a possible need for a user controlled checkoff list.
I made this a few years back to use Google Sheets as the source for the list but it broke when Google broke that. I think it was for a photography scavenger hunt but time dulls my memory and it was long enough in the past that I can’t access the Google Sheet. It’d be pretty easy to replace the JSON source with something else if you wanted to.
In this case, things are simpler. We just needed a static list built. That made things easier. It still uses JQuery because I’m too lazy to redo it but this is functional. If we end up using it, I’ll likely rewrite it in plain js.
Anyway, it’s a decent pattern for low-drama things like this where you want a simple pattern for storing values that aren’t high drama. The local storage will be tied to the single machine and

LocalStorage is one of these things i wish I had come across sooner– and well, then I forgot about it until seeing your post.
I put it to use maybe 2019 for this leadership resource site — which I am pleased is still up as the project ended before it got used much. There was a ton of resources organized into many categories/subcategories on the web site. Most of the users I was told would be accessing on mobile, so I hedged a way to grab all the resources (posts) via the WordPress API and display it more compactly.
But I used LocalStorage so a user could keep a preset of topics to display, calling it the “Navigator” https://corrleader.jibc.ca/about/navigator/
I am stunned it still works well considering no one, including me, touches the web site. I got in some fancy js for toggling/untoggling groups of boxes, stuff I can barely remember how to do

I end up being proud of my work on sites that never got much use. Useless? Nah, there’s always a possible future.

There are so many cool things like localStorage that I wonder just how many I’m missing.
Likely, you were the source of the idea to begin with. It’s hard to keep track of where some of the germs of some of these ideas originate once enough time passes. I do love avoiding cookie storage or having to have a full database for simple stuff like this.
