I consider this a pretty big success, helping me do something that is tedious and low priority compared to all the other things we need to work on. Improving the books database is a long-term goal that might take a while, with multiple tasks beyond better data, such as a community admin interface for readers to help curate new releases and book covers. Letting the bot loose on one piece of this is giving the project momentum it might not otherwise have.

The queue itself performs a parallel function. Universities possess effectively infinite appetite for administrative support, generating grants, IT support, hiring proposals, and compliance reviews at a rate that far outpaces the budgeted capacity to handle them. In this environment, complexity and delay serve as informal demand throttles. Required forms, committee approvals, and mandatory wait times are not merely inefficiency. They are rationing mechanisms that prevent the system from collapsing under load. Eliminating friction without expanding capacity (or reducing non-value-added activities or handoffs) does not improve service. It accelerates defective work.

Bruce, an endangered kea parrot (Nestor notabilis) missing his entire upper beak, has previously innovated to survive — using pebbles as self-care tools4. Here, we report that he has also innovated to thrive in his captive environment. Bruce is the alpha male of his circus (the collective noun for a group of kea): despite being the only disabled bird in his group, he was undefeated in dominance interactions with his male peers, exhibited the lowest stress hormone metabolites, had priority access to feeding stations, received the only allopreening directed toward a non-mate (Figures 1 and S1), and achieved this without allies. His weapon? A novel beak jousting technique (Figure S1 and Video S1) that turned his disability into dominance. These results show how behavioural innovation can dramatically reverse the consequences of disability in animals.

Anthropic secretly installs spyware when you install Claude Desktop — That Privacy Guy!
I did not install any Anthropic browser extension. I have never installed a Claude browser extension due to privacy and security concerns. I did install Claude Desktop, the Mac app, a while back. That is the only thing on this machine which could have written the file. Claude Desktop reached into Brave, a browser from a completely separate vendor, and registered a back door for a browser extension I do not have.
