If an LLM wrote the code for you, and you then reviewed it, tested it thoroughly and made sure you could explain how it works to someone else that’s not vibe coding, it’s software development. The usage of an LLM to support that activity is immaterial.

Screenshots of web apps he shared with WIRED—several of which WIRED verified were still online and exposed—showed what appeared to be a hospital’s work assignments with the personally identifiable information of doctors, a company’s detailed ad purchasing information, what appeared to be another firm’s go-to-market strategy presentation, a retailer’s full logs of its chatbot’s conversations with customers, including the customers’ full names and contact information, a shipping firm’s cargo records, and assorted sales and financial records from a variety of other companies. In some cases, Zvi says, he found that the exposed apps would have allowed him to gain administrative privileges over systems and even remove other administrators.

Along the way, the bot also commits any script changes to a git repo. It has its own GitHub account, so it’s still isolated and doesn’t have access to Micro.blog servers or the core platform codebase. I consider this a pretty big success, helping me do something that is tedious and low priority compared to all the other things we need to work on. Improving the books database is a long-term goal that might take a while, with multiple tasks beyond better data, such as a community admin interface for readers to help curate new releases and book covers. Letting the bot loose on one piece of this is giving the project momentum it might not otherwise have.

The queue itself performs a parallel function. Universities possess effectively infinite appetite for administrative support, generating grants, IT support, hiring proposals, and compliance reviews at a rate that far outpaces the budgeted capacity to handle them. In this environment, complexity and delay serve as informal demand throttles. Required forms, committee approvals, and mandatory wait times are not merely inefficiency. They are rationing mechanisms that prevent the system from collapsing under load. Eliminating friction without expanding capacity (or reducing non-value-added activities or handoffs) does not improve service. It accelerates defective work.

A disabled kea parrot is the alpha male of his circus: Current Biology
Bruce, an endangered kea parrot (Nestor notabilis) missing his entire upper beak, has previously innovated to survive — using pebbles as self-care tools4. Here, we report that he has also innovated to thrive in his captive environment. Bruce is the alpha male of his circus (the collective noun for a group of kea): despite being the only disabled bird in his group, he was undefeated in dominance interactions with his male peers, exhibited the lowest stress hormone metabolites, had priority access to feeding stations, received the only allopreening directed toward a non-mate (Figures 1 and S1), and achieved this without allies. His weapon? A novel beak jousting technique (Figure S1 and Video S1) that turned his disability into dominance. These results show how behavioural innovation can dramatically reverse the consequences of disability in animals.
