After shooting mainly soccer for a chunk of time, I’ve had the chance to shoot two of James’s football games. I’m trying to get shots of most of the people and I’m mixing action shots with some shots that are closer to portraiture. Shooting for coverage really slows down editing as I keep far more than I would otherwise and then I have to clean them up. I’ve been averaging 5k shots and keeping around 500. Light has been challenging as the games are at 1PM and it’s been cloudless.
When I shoot with two cameras I need to remember to make sure that the clocks are synched up. These were off by a two minutes or so and that leads to hassles when I’m editing.

This was the first home game for Middlebury this year and I tried to get shots like this that incorporated key background elements that emphasized the location. This one could probably use some more cropping to get out the video guy but I like the look and the de-emphasized, but still legible, scoreboard.

Decent action and separation. I like the athletic center in the background.

A fun action shot. It is a bit tilted and I couldn’t zoom out any more with that lens. The still photo hides the fact that the catch was not completed.

This kind of shot feels more like a portrait to me. I like the crowd background and colors.

A decent depth to the image. I like the QB signaling TD.

A close up of a fumble recovery. I wish the ball was more visible.

It was impossible to resist the color and profile here.

Kind of feels like cheating when I take action shots like this during warm ups.

Totally love these, the reception in mid-action is wonderful, but the defensive back is locking arms, right? I would call that foul all day long in the AI Madden universe. Is it because he is going for the ball? Still a bit of an overreach.
Also, the flags, blue suits, and bellies, what is not to love!
The image with the TD and that GB and then the in picture zoom to the pile-on is quite nice. Never tire of these.
The DB looks to be hooking his arm. Smart DBs block that with their body depending on where the ref is. For more nuance, you should talk to James. I find it hard to root against DBs even when they’re on the opposing team. I consider them the Ginger Rogers of football players.
