Minimal YouTube Player for Motor Control and Vision Issues

My dad has Parkinson’s disease and he recently had the unfortunate addition of a brain bleed and some glaucoma. That’s resulted in some fine motor skills issues and trouble seeing- a bad combination for using many apps.

He’s always loved music but has been struggling to use his phone or iPad. When I was trying to think of a way to give him control and choice with playing music, I recalled I did a YouTube playlist player for VCU back in the day and decided I could tweak it to give him the ability to move through a playlist of songs he liked in a simple and easy to navigate format.

This is round one of that attempt. It works from a playlist. It’s meant to run mainly on an iPad and I’ll likely tweak it if he ends up finding it useful.

It’s got the obvious things, like the previous/next buttons. There’s also a transparent div that covers the top YouTube controls to make them inaccessible so they don’t get clicked on by accident. The main video still acts as the play/pause button. I might obstruct more things and make all controls external. We’ll see.
